William Greaves Trophy 2018-19

Following over 400 matches played across 17 London Boroughs the Moogsoft William Greaves Trophy 2018/19 came to an exciting end as eight primary schools (listed below) battled it out at the MCC Academy, Lord’s, to be crowned champions.
We were delighted to see some new schools taking part in their very first finals day as well as welcoming back some familiar faces. In the end, Elmhurst Primary, perennial finalists representing Newham, took on Manor Longbridge Primary (competing in their first ever finals day and representing Barking and Dagenham) went head-to-head in the final.
Elmhurst Primary batted first in the final and were impressive with the bat, not losing a wicket until the 5th over and saw 3 of their top 4 retire on 15. With particular help from player of the match, Viret Attwal, Manor Longbridge were set the unenviable task of chasing 104 for victory.

In the end, this proved too much for the newcomers as they were bowled out for under 50 and Elmhurst were crowned champions for the fourth time.

From the borough rounds to the finals day, we are always delighted to see hard-fought, competitive cricket, but, more importantly, the competition continually provides unforgettable experiences for those involved and teaches the children who take part valuable skills that can be applied outside of sport.

Cricket, with its unique blend of requiring individual performances within a team sport, allows children to learn the importance of taking responsibility, working as a team, being disciplined and, through the “spirit of cricket” showing respect to the opposition, officials and for the game in general.
The Moogsoft William Greaves Trophy, formerly the British Land Kids Cricket League was initially launched in 2007 to provide competition opportunities with a league format to state primary school children and to introduce a gender inclusive competition (our rules state that a minimum of 3 girls must play in each game). With the support of our competition sponsor Moogsoft, we have been able to expand the competition to 17 boroughs
