Residential Trips

Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation

“The coaching was outstanding. The coaches helped us to improve our game.” Our two annual residential trips to Arundel, in partnership with the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation, provide an opportunity for children from disadvantaged areas of London to visit and play cricket at one of the UK’s most picturesque cricket grounds. Beyond the cricket, however, these trips have a far greater impact on the children taking part. For some, it is their first experience of being away from London, for most it is their first experience of being away without their parents/family and for everyone it is an opportunity to meet new people from different backgrounds and parts of London. These trips not only develop cricketing skills, but also important life and social skills such as resilience, communication and independence.

Wormsley Cricket Festival

During the 2019 school summer holiday we ran our first ever Wormsley Cricket Festival at the spectacular Wormsley Estate Cricket Ground situated among the Chiltern Hills. With support from our Chief Patron, Lady Getty, under 13s teams comprising of players from 3 of our club projects (Leyton Wicketz CC, West Ham and Stratford CC and Spikes Bridge Junior CC) took part in a twenty over, hard ball, competition and training sessions. We are excited to grow this festival over the coming years and possibly add it to our residential trip programme!

Ripton Charity Cricket

Repton Wicketz festival

Since their very first Wicketz festival at Felsted School to their now expanded festival at Repton School in Derbyshire, we have always been excited to bring our West Ham, Tower Hamlets and Leyton children to the Lord’s Taverner’s Wicketz festival. Taking place across 3 days in August, the trip combines high quality coaching, including masterclasses with professional players, with a series of life skill development workshops that provide a well rounded and hugely positive experience for all those taking part. Away from the pitch, children have taken part in workshops including children’s first aid, work around maintaining a healthy lifestyle, communication and problem solving with the Royal Navy and much, much more!

The Story Behind our Residential Trips

For many years, Capital Kids Cricket, has provided the opportunity for children, from some of the most deprived areas of London, to go on residential trips to locations throughout the UK. In the past, these have included Ampleforth College, Radley College and Bradfield School. For two years, we also ran a tour to Yorkshire aimed at players of a higher level.

We have been working closely with the Arundel Castle Foundation for almost 20 years now and, each year we run two residential trips to Arundel for up to 200 children. During the May half term, we take eight school groups, both girls and boys, for a beginner’s cricket residential before returning in July with up to eight clubs from across London for specialised coaching and matches.

In recent years we have had the privilege of adding a trip to Repton School in Derbyshire to our calendar. In conjunction with The Lord’s Taverners, up to 50 children are given the opportunity to take part in coaching sessions and matches across three days at the prestigious school.
