William Greaves Trophy 2021-22
This year our theme is ‘Bowl Out Racism’ campaign. We are taking this opportunity to educate children about racism in schools and during this competition.
‘Bowl Out Racism’
“Capital Kids Cricket is one of the most diverse organisation working in inner city for the last 33 years. There is no place for racism within the organisation. One of the successes of the organisation is to bring people together. This was evident during the CKC World cricket festival in 2019 where people from 58 nationalities and 68 different language speakers played cricket together.” Shahidul Alam Ratan, CEO of Capital Kids Cricket

Little Ealing primary school and Millfields Community school finished top in their group to secure a place for the semi finals. The net run rate comes into play between Old Ford primary school, Leo Academy and Rhodes avenue to decide who goes to the semi final. Leo academy and Rhodes avenue go through to semi finals.
1st semi final between Little Ealing primary school and Leo Academy was a tie and the winner had to be decided by a super over. Little Ealing come out on top
2nd Semi final between Rhodes avenue and Millfields Community School. Rhodes avenue beat Millfields to reach the final.
Final: After scoring a competitive total of 68 runs, Little Ealing Primary School defend their title of the William Greaves Trophy and beat Rhodes Avenue by 8 runs to be crowned champions. Congratulations!

Tower Hamlets
After nearly 2 years of not running the competition, We kicked off 2021/22 with the Tower Hamlets Competition at the University of East London.
The final was between Old Ford Primary School and Marner. Old Ford scored 238 and managed to restrict Marner for 210 to win the Tower Hamlets Competition. Well done to Old Ford Primary School. We look forward to seeing them in the new year for the next round of the William Greaves Trophy.

Haringey
On Thursday 25th November we had the Haringey Primary Schools competition. Thanks to Alexandra Park School for hosting the competition.
Rhodes Avenue cruised through the group stages to reach the final against St Michael’s who managed to bowl out Rhodes Avenue for 76 with some fantastic bowling and fielding. However, the batters fell short of the score and only managed to get 54. Rhodes Avenue keep maintaining their record and once again get through to the next round of the competition. We look forward to seeing them in the new year for the next round of the William Greaves Trophy.
Camden
The Camden Borough round was hosted by Haverstock School. After cruising through the group stages Torriano Primary School were tested by Christ Church Primary School in the final. Christ church put 52 on the board from their 8 overs followed by some great bowling and fielding to restrict Torriano to 20-6 after 5 overs. Some great batting from Torriano saw them cross the line by scoring 33 off 3 overs to win the final of the Camden competition. Congratulations to Torriano Primary School. This is what the teacher had to say,
“Taking part in the Capital Kids Cricket primary school competition is great because the children enjoy playing cricket. Today the final was so close and we won on the last ball, this will get children talking about cricket in and around the school including assemblies. This will also encourage more children to join the after school club”

Westminster
St. Mary of the Angels Primary School beat Gateway academy to win the Westminster Borough round of the William Greaves Trophy. After helping Capital Kids Cricket with the countdown to launching the ‘Bowl Out Racism’ campaign, St. Mary of the Angels finished unbeaten on day one of the Westminster competition. On day two St. Mary of the Angels faced Gateway Academy in the final. They posted a competitive total of 60 runs from 8 overs. Gateway lost wickets almost every over thanks to some brilliant catches from St. Mary of the Angels. They however still managed to score runs to take the game deep. The game went to the last over when Gateway needed 4 runs off 3 balls with their last batter. Another fantastic catch sealed the win for St. Mary of the Angels by 3 runs. Congratulations to St. Mary of the Angels Primary School. We look forward to seeing them in the next round of the competition in the new year.

Newham
The Newham competition was held at Newham Leisure Centre on Monday 6th December. We had 10 schools take part in the competition. Lots of cricket was played throughout the day to find a competition winner. After a total of 20 games in group stages and semi-finals Elmhurst Primary School and Kensington Primary School met in the final. The favourites Elmhurst were surprised by Kensington with yet another last over thriller. Congratulations to Kensington and we look forward to seeing them in the next round.

Hackney
On Friday 10th December we delivered the Hackney Borough Round of the competition at Britannia Leisure Centre. Millfields Community School finish the day unbeaten to win the Hackney Borough Round of the William Greaves Trophy. St Paul’s with St Michael’s primary school tried their best in the final by taking a few early wickets and restricting Milfields to 47, but some great bowling and fielding wrapped up the win for Millfields Community School.
We look forward to welcoming them to the next round of the competition in the new year. We would like to give thanks to Young Hackney for their support.
Redbridge
The last competition before we break up for the Christmas holidays took place at Redbridge Sports Centre. We continue to remove barriers to participation. This time round making use of the tennis courts to deliver the Redbridge Borough competition of the William Greaves Trophy.
Wells Primary School beat Avanti Court Primary School in the finals to win the borough round. It was another last ball thriller. Avanti Court set a target of 69-5 from 8 overs for Wells Primary School. The chase got off to a slow start, however, some smart batting from Wells Primary kept the scoreboard ticking. Although no boundary was scored in their innings, some great running between the wickets and teamwork took them over the line. Congratulations to Wells Primary School and we look forward to seeing you in the next round of the competition.
Ealing
Schools from Ealing take part in the William Greaves Trophy and join the ‘Bowl Out Racism’ campaign.
Villiers High School hosted this year’s competition on Thursday 6th January. We would like to give a huge thanks to Nicole, Head of PE at Villiers for making this happen and supporting us with this competition. The young leaders at the school also supported the umpires in running the games.
It was a great day as children took part in joining the ‘Bowl out Racism’ campaign as well as competing for a place in the next round of the competition. Defending champions and favourites Little Ealing Primary School took on Berrymead Primary School in the finals. Little Ealing scored a very competitive total of 77-4 him their 8 overs. Berrymead gave their best and finished short of the target on 44-5. Little Ealing Primary School finish the day unbeaten to be crowned champions of the Ealing and secure a place in the next round. Well done to all the schools for taking part.
Waltham Forest
The Borough round for the Waltham Forest competition was held at Leyton Hub on Monday 10th January. Congratulations to Mission Grove Primary School who beat Gwyn Jones Primary School by chasing a score of 48 in the final over. We look forward to seeing them in the semi finals rounds next month.
Semi Finals (2021/22):
We will be running the Semi-Final days of the William Greaves Trophy at Indoor Academy in Lords Cricket Ground. These games will take place in February and March. Teams will be competing for a place in the Grand Final where 8 schools will play to be crowned the champions for 2021/22.
